Santa Monica College Emeritus Spring, 2024 Classes

Santa Monica College Emeritus
is a non-credit program of Santa Monica College
designed for the older adult community.
Classes are free.
Students are encouraged to sign up before the first class. However, SMC Emeritus offers continuous enrollment, so you can also join the class anytime during the semester.

1) Beginning Jewelry-Making Class

Class Title: Art E80, Jewelry Making, Section 9732

Dates: Every Thursday, February 25th - June 6th.
NOTE: No class 2/22/24 or 3/21/24 (Susan absent)
or 4/11/23 (Spring Break).

Time: 2:00 - 4:15pm

Location: This class is now being held remotely on Zoom (even though the catalogue says it's in person. It's been changed back to Zoom. A  Zoom link will be sent after you register.

Class Description: In this project-based class, you will learn a wide range of jewelry-making techniques ranging from various methods of attaching clasps, to pearl knotting, chain maille, bead weaving and more. Bring to class a small towel and any jewelry tools or materials you already own. Do NOT buy any new tools or materials until after class discussion. Students can purchase jewelry materials from Susan at discounted prices.

2) Advanced Jewelry-Making Class

Class Title: Art E80, Jewelry Making, Section 9731

Dates: Every Thursday, February 25th - June 6th.

Time: 2:00 - 4:15pm

Class Description: In this project-based class, you will build on skills learned in the beginning jewelry-making class.
Pre-requisites are: mastery of wire-wrapping & looping, pearl knotting & basic chain maille. Bring to class a small towel and any jewelry tools or materials you already own. Do NOT buy any new tools or materials until after class discussion. All tools & materials will be available for purchase from Susan at discounted prices.

3) Needlecraft Class: Knitting, Crochet, Weaving, Macrame, Embroidery, etc.

Class Title: Hme Ec E71, Needlecraft II, Section 9798

Dates: Every Wednesday, February 14th - June 5th.
NOTE: No class 4/10/23 (Spring Break).

Time: 1:30 - 4:20pm

Location: This class is now being held remotely on Zoom. A  Zoom link will be sent after you register.

Class Description: In this casual, friendly class, you will have the opportunity to learn any fiber technique that interests you, including knitting, crochet, all types of weaving, needlework, basketry, macrame, etc. Bring your own project to class and Susan will help you complete it and solve any problems you may have. You can also learn from scratch any of the techniques listed above. Absolute beginners as well as advanced students are all welcome. Be prepared to make friends, share ideas and be inspired to try something totally new!
